José David (Central America)

Central American artist who came to Costa Rica at the beginning of the 80’s, even though he lived here on interrupted times; his first arrival was in 1976 when he was invited to meet the engraving in metal with the teacher Juan Luis Rodríguez (1934) at the Plastic Art School, University of Costa Rica. He has worked with drawing, mixed techniques, lithography on marble, artistic engraving, and he has participated in experimental workshops of graphics in Nicaragua, Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. His recent work is acrylic based, but he has used other techniques.
He is defined as an artist “filled with deep blues, sleeping reds, and shady black”.
“He is not an ordinary artist. José David paints to communicate with his deepest emotions and intuitions. He is intense and exceptional, in a time in which plastic artists only want to impress.” He has over twenty individual expositions and over thirty collectively.

Throughout his international career he has received a new nickname from Honduras “Latin American Walker”.
